Just days after benching Kris Humphries, Avery Johnson has been fired by the Brooklyn Nets.
The former point guard was dismissed by the team after posting a 14-14 record through 28 games; he had ironically been named Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for October and November following an 11-4 start.

"The Nets ownership would like to express thanks to Avery for his efforts and to wish him every success in the future," principal owner Mikhail Prokhorov said of the decision.
Brooklyn retooled in the offseason, trading for Joe Johnson and resigning star Deron Williams.
With expectations high for the club, given its first year in a new city, ownership apparently ran out of patience for a coach who compiled a 60-116 record in just over two years at the helm.
Might Phil Jackson soon hear his phone ring as a replacement for Johnson? Let the rumors swirl!
