On Friday, Adrian Peterson was indicted on child abuse charges.
Perhaps having learned from the Ray Rice scandal earlier in the week, the Minnesota Vikings immediately deactivated Peterson for their week 2 game against the New England Patriots.
Now, just one day after that game, however, the Vikings have announced that Peterson will practice with the team this week and is expected to play against the New Orleans Saints this Sunday.
"To be clear, we take very seriously any matter that involves the welfare of a child," said team owners Zygi and Mark Wilf in a statement issued today.
"At this time, however, we believe this is a matter of due process and we should allow the legal system to proceed so we can come to the most effective conclusions and then determine the appropriate course of action."
Shortly after being indicted on Friday, Peterson admitted to "whooping" his son with a "switch" (a thin branch cut from a tree).
Graphic photos of the injuries to Peterson's son show cuts and welts on the boy's legs that resulted from being struck with the switch dozens of times.
The 4-year-old's offense was reportedly taking a toy from another one of Peterson's children.
Peterson's mug shot showed him smiling as he was booked by police, and the Pro Bowl running back has yet to publicly apologize for the incident.
