Over the weekend, Michael Sam was drafted by the St. Louis Rams, thus making history as the first openly gay player to enter the NFL.
Most of the social media responses to the news were overwhelmingly positive, with Sam's boyfriend Vito Cammisano leading the pack of congratulatory tweeters.
Sadly, a handful of homophobes were more than happy to rain on the parade with some even calling for a boycott of ESPN for showing a kiss between Sam and Cammisano on air.
That campaign gained traction when former Ole Miss basketball star Marshall Henderson unleashed a tirade aimed at the sports news network.
"Boycotting sportscenter til this michael sam nasty a*s sh*t is off!" Henderson tweeted referring to the long-running ESPN news show. "My brothers are 7 and 11 and saw that!!! #SICKENING"
Unfortunately, Henderson isn't the only athlete taking shots at Sam.
The day before Henderson's tweet, the Miami Dolphins fined safety Don Jones for describing the kiss as "horrible" on Twitter.
We'd like to once again congratulate Michael Sam on his history-making achievement and suggest that Henderson's boycott campaign is a product of pure jealousy.
Despite being a fan favorite in college, Henderson is not expected to be drafted by the NBA this June.
We're guessing outing himself as a homophobe probably didn't help his prospects.
